The complete Macross saga of Robotech is told in the video game Robotech: Battlecry. This includes everything from the initial contact with the Zentraedi invading force over the skies of Macross metropolis to the climactic struggle between humans and Zentraedi in the burned remains of Earth. Jack Archer, a skilled Veritech pilot serving in the SDF, is the character that the player assumes when they begin the game. His assignments range from searching for and eliminating Zentraedi Lieutenants in demolished cities to defending shuttles moving through deep space wreckage fields as they pass through the debris field. Throughout the game, cameo appearances by characters from the show will take place, with those characters being spoken by the same actors who provided their voices for the Robotech animated series.

Jack will acquire access to new Veritech models as the game advances, each with unique statistics but most of the same skills as previous models. When in Fighter mode, the Veritech can shoot homing missiles or rapid-fire Gunpod rounds, and it can also drop a decoy pod that would attract rockets fired by the other team. Guardian mode is inferior to Fighter mode in speed, removing the option to drop decoy pods. However, it adds the ability to aim Gunpod rounds, makes missiles more effective and allows the player to pick up mission-essential objects. Battloid mode cannot fly or fire missiles, but it can fast aim the Gunpod and automatically destroy any hostile missiles it encounters. Battloid also can go into sniper mode, allowing it to fire an extremely powerful charged Gunpod shot at foes further away. Switching between any way immediately and at any time the user desires is possible. You can acquire new Veritech models, paint jobs, and arenas for the two-player method by completing certain milestones in the game, such as defeating enemy troops or bosses and being granted medals. Medals can be used to unlock these achievements.
