The world of Black Matrix Zero (ブラックマトリクス ゼロ) exists humans, angels, as well as demons. Previously, they used to live happily together, but there were incidents, causing them to split into three areas: heaven, earth, and hell. One day, when the greed and evil of the devil reached its climax, they built their own army and engulfed the world in darkness. At that time, love was considered to be one of the worst. Anyone charged will be hunted and punished. Abel is a child born from the love between man and angel. For years, he was imprisoned in a dungeon. But then, thanks to his intense love, he was given the power to fight against those evils.
Black Matrix Zero’s gameplay is significantly dominated by the plot, which is divided into chapters. At the beginning of each section, a short summary of the ongoing story will be shown. The game doesn’t have a world map feature, so mostly, players will be navigated to different locations based on the mission system and the information provided.
The battles are organized in a highly tactical turn-based gameplay. When encountering opponents, the player needs to choose each action for each member of his or her 3-person team on a grid of squares. Three abilities that can be used are Attack, items, and moves. Perhaps, some people will wonder about the meaning of the “move” skill. The answer to this is that not all the positions in the terrain are the same. When the character moves to a nice location, they will have many advantages, and even the enemy can not deal damage. However, depending on the range, they can only perform a certain number of moves only.
In the early stages, monsters are quite weak and easy to defeat. However, over time, the difficulty will increase continuously, require the player to calculate tactics, carefully in each turn, to be able to defeat stronger opponents. Besides, strength is also a factor that deserves attention. Characters’ designs have many levels, skills, and equipment features. They can all be upgraded to increase stats on physical attack, defense, HP, as well as BP. During the battle, the level will automatically increase thanks to the experience gained once players defeat the opponent, or fulfill a mission. In terms of equipment, they can either be collected or bought in-store by using reward units.
