For releases from the Pokemon Series, if you’ve ever played at least one of them, you probably know its model is fighting to grow and collect warriors. MEDABOTS AX – ROKUSHO VERSION is quite similar, although the process is different. Pokemon has a harmonious combination of adventure and action, which means that the character can move in many different maps, interact with the NPC but not for this game. Its element is purely about action. The plot is also straightforward, summarized in a few lines of text when the championship tournament takes place. Rokusho acts as the main character, and he has been practicing for the past four years in hopes of becoming a champion. Therefore, its progress is the tournament, participating in each round/stage to fight with rivals. The winner will receive a ticket to get closer to the precious gold cup.
In each battle, you and your opponent will control two robots: one is the Leader, and the other is the Partner. True to its name, the Partner will act as a supporter to protect the remaining teammate, while trying to damage the enemy. The result will be determined when one of the two Leaders is defeated. If it is glory, the system will reward experience points for both Medabots, and parts called: Medapart. If you fail, you will still gain experience points, but with a smaller amount and possibly lose Medapart.
Like the previous sections, battles provide a development opportunity for warriors. This means that the level will be increased to improve the indicators of damage, defense, and speed. Medapart is used to replace body parts such as the head, torso, or limbs. Of course, they will bring different effects, depending on the attribute and type.
As for the controls, it’s quite simple and somewhat repetitive. You will choose different parts and deploy the corresponding skills. The key point here is to create precise attacks on the enemy’s face, to reduce their health meter to zero. And of course, they can do the same thing, but still can be dodged, or defend if your reaction is agile enough.
Overall, “Medabots AX: Rokusho” is a good action game. Although lacking a tactical element, it is compensated by the developer with the transaction feature. It allows players to connect via GBA cables and exchange medals or Medapart to build stronger robots.
