Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 features professional skateboarders such as Eric Koston, Rodney Mullen, or Ryan Sheckler. They are presented in the game’s character list, but most are not unlocked from the right of the beginning. Instead, the system allows players to create their own character, customize skin color, hair, style, and so on. However, their techniques are not really good, because the technical indicators are the default. This game has an immersive element, so levels and statistics play important roles. Each completed mission will give players experience to gain additional points for future upgrades.

The gameplay of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 is nothing much different from its predecessors. The game still starts with some simple tasks, mainly instructing players on some basic skateboarding features and controls. After that, there will be changes, focus on techniques, and requirements for completing with higher accuracy. The system will reward cash, which can be used to unlock characters, maps, and buy new boards.

The gameplay simulates the physical movement quite well and realistic. Players will perform from basic to advanced techniques such as Slides and grinds, Grabs, Ollie, or Flip tricks with some constraints as a special meter mand altimeter. While the character is standing on the skateboard and is about to move to sloping terrain, or upon an iron bar, the altimeter will appear in the middle of the screen, require the player press to perform. If the mistake is too great, he will fall, and there is even an ability that he cannot continue. Of course, it can be played freely, such as changing directions in the air or switching from Ollie to Flip tricks with some basic T-pad. Although the rate of failure is quite high, it provides a number of bonuses more than two or even by four times if the player succeeds.

In addition to Career mode, Simple Session, Multiplayer, the Level Editor, and Free Skate can all be played. Of course, goals need to be accomplished, and the rules will change. The missions can be to reach a certain score level, collect letters to complete “S K A T E”, collect medals, beat other opponents, or finish in a limited time. The map will constantly change so as not to bring the boredom, from the roads in New York, Philly to the beautiful city of Venice.
