The championship tournament every 10 years is taking place in the Battle City. Many gladiators have looked forward to this day to show off their talents that have been practicing for years. Zigfried – a gladiator who has twice lost the opportunity to become a champion, when he is always subjective against weaker opponents. This time is not an exception when he is eliminated in the semi-finals. He becomes very angry with Kaiba – the organizer of the tournament, that he is organizing a plan with the other accomplices: The Pharaoh, Dark One Great Evil God, Lord of Terror Evil and Darkness to destroy the tournament, and immerse the world in darkness. In this dark moment, Kaiba searches the help of Yugi and his friends. Together, they fight to stop the bad guys’ plans.

The game starts with 3 decks of cards: blue, red, and yellow. Inside, they contain 40 random cards, and the player can choose anyone to start the first battle. The gameplay of this game is quite similar to the Anime series previously released, and mostly, there are no instructions from the system. However, they are quite simple to capture, as the cards consist of only three types: Monsters, magic attacks, and traps. Each turn, the player can perform a number of actions such as: Put Monster cards into offensive/defensive positions or activate the special abilities of the cards, with the ultimate goal of taking away all 8000 opponent’s LP points. Yu-Gi-Oh’s gameplay! – The Eternal Duelist Soul focuses on tactical ability, players need to think about potential moves and the risks that may be encountered to minimize the possible damage. Imagine the mechanism in chess with trial and error. The game has over 800 different types of cards. They all have different abilities, in terms of usage, level of damage, as well as defense. Some suitable cards can be combined with each other to become stronger.

The story of the game is divided into several levels, in which the player must beat from 4 to 5 opponents to unlock the next level. For each victory, the system will provide a number of new cards or bonus units to unlock more special cards. Besides, Yu-Gi-Oh! – The Eternal Duelist Soul features a calendar, with the starting date is January 1st. Each battle will take place for one day, and some special days will unlock events, or tournaments randomly. This feature is quite new in the Yu-Gi-Oh series and is also the point that makes the game more interesting, making players do not feel the stereotyped script that was built-in.
