In this free-roaming action game, the Wild West meets Grand Theft Auto. You play Colton White, a young gunslinger whose father is killed by an Indian tribe led by Reverend Reed in 1870. Your father hands you a token just before he dies, revealing you are not his son. Sworn to avenge his death, you pursue the killers and uncover the item’s secrets. Although you are alone, you can form temporary alliances with townspeople, Apaches, and posse members, but keep an eye on them as they can turn against you.
The main plot is linear by Hollywood screenwriter Randall Jahnson (The Mask of Zorro, 1998). You will have to fight duels, defend towns from bandits, assist in constructing railway tracks, intervene in various conflicts, and kill heavily armed bosses. There are also numerous side missions and other ways to earn money. You can play poker in the casino, assist farmers with their livestock, assist the local sheriff, or use the pony express to deliver items. Bounty hunting, regular hunting for rare animals, gold mining, and various rescue missions are options.
Acquiring and improving skills such as QuickDraw (shown in Bullet Time,) Zoom Firing, Melee Combat, improved accuracy, the ability to throw axes, and strategically equipping and upgrading different weapons are all RPG elements. Hand weapons (knives, tomahawks, bayonets), archery arms, explosive throwable items, and standard guns like sharpshooter rifles, colts, and Winchesters are available. Some are earned during missions, while others can be purchased and sold for cash in towns.
The primary mode of transportation, horses, is a nod to the G.T.A. There are various animals with a wide range of movement options. Run wild chases, spurt, gallop, perform skid attacks, or trample your opponents. Allow them to rest occasionally, or you will wear them out. You can roll maneuvers, use objects for cover, grab your opponents, and scalp them in melee combat. You are free to deviate from the main plot and explore the vast landscape, which includes towns, deserts, mountains, wilderness, and caves.
