Legend is the seventh major game in the Tomb Raider series, developed for the first time by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Toby Gard, the original character designer of the game’s protagonist Lara Croft.

Heroine Lara is looking for a South American relic, but her adventure is derailed when rogue anthropologist Amanda Evert arrives. Amanda returns with a score to settle as she and the shady James Rutland Jr. race to obtain an ancient artifact. Amanda and a team of graduate students were presumed dead after an accident in a tomb in Peru, where Lara was the only one to escape. Many other characters, both friends and foes, will agitate the situation. The story transports Lara to various locations worldwide, including the Himalayas, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Bolivia, Japan, and England, as well as her famous mansion filled with secrets and collectibles. In addition to current events, flashbacks reveal Lara’s past. You will learn how she lost her mother and why it is such a burden, among other things.

The typical third-person action-adventure exploration remains. Lara can move more freely now that specific jumps do not restrict her. You will need to run, dive, swim, climb on poles, ladders, and roofs, use zip lines, shimmy, and vault, and perform acrobatic actions such as somersaults and flips as you travel through harsh environments. To advance or open up new areas, you must traverse rugged terrain, solve puzzles, and engage in combat. A grappling hook, which can be used not only to move around but also to haul enemies Scorpion-style, binoculars, a PLS (personal light source), flares, a PDA, and a headset to communicate with tech support Zip are among the new tools.

Enemies are still hard to come by. Humans and animals will attack you, and the game retains the auto lock-on mode but with a slide attack and close combat with both kicks and punches, as well as bullet-time actions to quickly get behind enemies. Lara carries her trademark dual-wielded pistols but can also pick up new weapons like a shotgun and grenades. Missions occur indoors and outdoors, with arcade motorcycle and jeep sequences interspersed. Lara, as usual, dresses up for each location.

The PSP version includes the entire game and a multiplayer mode called Tomb Trials. You can go on a timed scavenger hunt for artifacts or race another player through tombs to see who comes out first.
