Twilight Princess is the first Legend of Zelda game for the Wii and the final GameCube game. Link begins as a simple farm boy, herding goats and watching children in Ordon village, Link’s hometown. The mayor asks Link to run an errand in Castle Town one day, but things go wrong…

The land darkens, and strange creatures from another world known as the Twilight Realm appear, turning most into ghosts. Link, on the other hand, transforms into a wolf. Midna, a Twilight Realm resident, assists Link after he transforms into a wolf. Midna assists Link in finding a way to revert to human form, among other things.

The wolf is unable to use a sword or other items. Link, as a wolf, must instead use his senses to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. The beast can also dig holes to find hearts and rupees and to gain access to certain areas. It can use its head to push blocks and reveal hidden passageways, allowing it to climb higher. It can also attack enemies by biting or pouncing on them.

Link, as a human, can move quickly, aim his bow, swing his sword, and even fish. Association also collects various items, allowing him to perform special attacks and travel to previously inaccessible locations. Link can perform a variety of sword attacks and even learn new sword moves.

The game’s art style is similar to that of Ocarina of Time, rather than the cel-shaded look of The Wind Waker. The game takes place chronologically between the two titles above, and many locations from Ocarina of Time can be visited. The main adventure takes place in several provinces, each with dungeons and temples. Later in the game, you can easily travel around with Midna’s assistance.

The game’s Wii U remaster includes the following:

  • Graphics upgrades
  • Wii U GamePad compatibility (allowing for a mini-map to be displayed on the touchscreen or items to be changed using the touchscreen)
  • Miiverse assistance
  • Minor changes have been made to certain aspects of gameplay.
  • A new level of difficulty
  • The Cave of Shadows is a new dungeon accessible via the Wolf Link amiibo.
  • Extra amiibo support for health and arrow refills
