The mutants of the Brotherhood and the X-Men try to put aside their differences now that a familiar foe, the dreaded Apocalypse, has appeared. His plan entails kidnapping mutants and extracting their powers, with the help of the insane geneticist Mr. Sinister, to make himself even more powerful. First, the heroes must save Professor X, who the enemy has kidnaped. When Apocalypse kidnaps Magneto’s son Quicksilver, the Brotherhood leader is more determined than ever to join his former foes and stop Apocalypse’s evil plans.

The sequel to X-Men Legends, X-Men: Legends II – Rise of Apocalypse, is a role-playing action game. The player controls a party of four characters, though only one can be controlled directly at any given time. Aside from switching characters for combat, the player is frequently forced to do so because some of the tasks in the game require the specific abilities of a particular mutant. For example, Iceman can extinguish a fire; Magneto can create a metal bridge across a gap, and so on. Most of the time is spent in combat, collecting loot, and gaining experience points.

In contrast to the first game, enemies drop items at random. The character will level up, gain strength, and learn new abilities. The player has the option of manually allocating all experience and skill points.

Based on their mutant abilities, each character possesses a variety of skills. Melee, boost, projectile, traps, and other powers are among them. Each character can also learn powerful super skills, such as Cyclops’ super beam attack, Wolverine’s spinning attack that inflicts heavy damage, Magneto’s metal attack, crushing everything in sight by manipulating metal objects in the environment, and so on.

The sequel includes online multiplayer with both cooperative and competitive modes. Four players can play on a single console by plugging in additional controllers at any time.
