Band Hero is a karaoke/rhythm-based game similar to the Guitar Hero titles but aimed at the pop-loving adolescent demographic and a more group-based party game (unlike Guitar Hero, complete band instruments are available from the start of the series).

The instruments are the same as in previous GH games. The microphone is for vocals, the guitars are for lead or bass guitar, and the drum kits are for drumming along. As a result, each instrument in the game has its own ‘career’ route.

When performing vocals for your band, you must sing in sync with the music, matching the pitch as precisely as possible. Holding down the fret buttons and strumming as the relevant fret icons cross the strike line on the screen allows you to play lead and bass guitar. Drums are played similarly to guitars, with the correct drum pads/cymbals being hit at the precise time. The higher your score, the better your performance; however, you will flunk the song if you make too many faults.

You can play any of the instrument careers alone, or you can play with up to three buddies on one console or online to compete with other musicians and bands worldwide.

Duran Duran’s Rio, Don McLean’s American Pie, evanescences Bring Me To Life, and Queen’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love is among the songs featured.
