Just Dance 4 is the fourth main game in the dancing series in which players are judged for their ability to copy dance routines to popular tunes. On the Wii platform, movement is monitored by the Wii Remote, the Xbox 360 by the Kinect peripheral, and the PlayStation 3 by the PlayStation Eye camera, with optional support for the Move accessory.
The difficulty levels have been eliminated, as has the opportunity to execute a short dance to speed through a song. Various game modes have also been removed, such as Simon Says, medley, quick shuffle, playlists, just create, and 8-player. It is also no longer possible to build bespoke dance routines. The dancing quests are a new addition to the series, with six assignments for a single song. Completing them earns you mojo points, the in-game cash. Except for the Xbox 360, players can create dancer cards as a profile for favorite songs, highest scores, and completed challenges on all platforms. Variations on themes, like in previous games, can be unlocked. The sweat mode from the last round has been developed into a fitness-like program with a new focus for each routine that may last up to 40 minutes. It also includes warm-up and cool-down periods. Other game modes include fight mode and dance mash-up mode. The new attendance feature records gameplay moments and combines them into a film for platforms with cameras.
The puppet master mode, exclusive to the Wii U version, uses the GamePad to change visuals, playlists, and moves for up to four other players on the fly. It can also be used to write on-screen and record images and movies. DLC for more tracks is available for all platforms. The base game includes roughly 50 tracks, with variations based on venue and locale. Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Rihanna, Jessie J, Flo Rida, Carrie Underwood, Elvis Presley, Ricky Martin, Nelly Furtado, Rick Astley, Britney Spears, Pink, and Skrillex are among the artists included.
