After the events of the first Tales of Symphonia game, in which Lloyd Irving and his friends unified the twin worlds of Tethe’alla and Sylvarant, chaos broke out due to the contrasts between the two planets. The climate of the new world went through various shifts, with lakes changing into dry valleys and deserts transforming into icy wastelands. Additionally, the difference in technological capability between the Sylvaranti and the Tethe’allans led to a violent struggle that was waged worldwide.

The player takes control of Emil Castagnier, a young boy from Palmacosta who was forced to watch his parents be murdered by Lloyd, the protagonist from the first adventure, during a conflict that would later be referred to as the “Blood Purge.” After setting off on a mission for retribution, he comes upon Marta Lualdi, a young woman who is being pursued by Sylvaranti soldiers and the enigmatic Richter Abend, and he makes a solemn oath to safeguard both of them from harm.

Exploring the overworld and engaging in combat are the two primary components of the gameplay in this title, both controlled by the player with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, respectively. Players can interact with non-playable people and the environment when playing in the first mode. When adversaries face players, the combat mode is activated. The battles occur in real-time, and the player takes control of one of their party’s fighters (out of a maximum of four), with the other fighters being commanded either by the game’s artificial intelligence or other players. Over 200 unique monsters are available, all of which can be captured and brought into battle alongside your other characters. This is a brand-new addition to the franchise.
