The 2008 edition of the Tiger Woods PGA series adds updates and improvements to the previous version while making no significant graphical or gameplay changes. There are new courses (Xbox 360/PS3: 5 new, totaling 16 – PS2: 6 new, totaling 18) and licensed professional golfers to pick from (21 on Xbox 360/PS3 – 23 on PS2/Wii).

The Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and Windows versions allow users to import pictures and use the Xbox Live Vision camera, PlayStation EyeToy, PlayStation Eye, or a webcam to create in-game faces on avatars based on custom images. Clothing, hair, eye color, and other personalization options are available. The starting statistics can be enhanced by completing power or precision challenges. They can also be improved by performing well on the PGA Tour, which considers skill strokes and an overall rating. Players can unlock new golfers and spend cash on new equipment in the shop.

The game combines rounds of golf at Westchester Country Club, TPC Boston, Cog Hill, and East Lake with the FedExCup championship format (a collection of tournaments). The putt preview has been updated, allowing the player to replicate the ball’s path once per each spot, taking power, speed, and elevation into account. On the Xbox 360 and PS3, shots are taken using the 3-point timed approach for start, control, and accuracy rather than the analog stick. Shot Confidence is a new feature that tracks a player’s performance on specific courses, to particular putts, and with individual clubs. Great results boost confidence, which leads to more experience and improved performance on particular systems. Low morale leads to decreased accuracy, a racing heart, and rumbling Wii controllers.

GamerNet has been added to the multiplayer (up to 4 players), allowing users to design and play custom challenges, with their scores broadcast online (Xbox 360/PS3/Windows).

On the Wii, players can shake the controls to mock their opponents and throw them off balance with four distinct movements. It can manipulate air pressure, spin, or add aural diversions. Full Swing (wii remote), Sitting Swing (new, waggle the Wii remote), and classic controls using the Nunchuck for analog play are available. Twisting the Wii remote before shots in Full Swing adds hooks and slashes. A Miniputt mode is also peculiar to the Wii.
