Viese and Felt, two orphans from Eden, are the protagonists of Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny. At the story’s start, an earthquake has caused enormous land areas to vanish! Viese and Felt have volunteered to investigate what occurred and keep Eden from being destroyed. With the help of a mystical sword known as the Azure Azoth, Felt travels through a portal to another planet known as Belkhyde in quest of an answer to their problem, while Viesa remains in Eden to take care of things.

You control Viesa and Felt on their mission throughout the game. Viesa has recently become an alchemist, allowing her to take various goods and magically construct new ones with the help of the world’s Mana spirits. Viesa will require a recipe detailing what ingredients to mix and those ingredients for new items. These artifacts can be found throughout the regions, some in Eden and some in Belkhyde. Many of the items Viesa can create with alchemy will be extremely useful to Felt as he explores Belkhyde and fights in battles; however, because Felt cannot make things, they will require the assistance of a shared ring, which allows them to exchange items even though they are in two different worlds. Felt will frequently need to work with Viesa to obtain essential goods for solving puzzles or making combat more straightforward. As Felt traverses Belkhyde, he meets various other people and must complete several objectives to save Eden.

The combat in the game is turn-based; a meter at the top of the screen shows each of the characters in the battle, with the surface on the right getting the next turn. With each turn, players can choose from a variety of offensive possibilities. The two fundamental attacks are break attacks, which drive your opponents further left on the meter, granting more time or an extra turn, and charge attacks, which raise the skill meter. Each character also has unique abilities that can be employed, provided you have enough points on your skill meter. Battles occur randomly; as you explore enemy-infested areas, a meter on the screen begins blue and gradually fades to red; the closer the meter is to read, the better your odds of encountering random combat. This meter will progressively drain as you beat foes; when it is empty, you have defeated all the adversaries in that area. Experience points are acquired as you win battles, allowing your characters to level up and become more powerful.

The tale will develop as you continue through the game. You can learn more about the region and what’s going on by speaking with the numerous people, you’ll come across and see cut scenes at various times.
