Like the others in the Dancing Dance Revolution series, this game is designed to be played using a platform controller or dancing mat. While the song plays, arrows will move up the screen in time with the music. To score points, you must step on the hand corresponding to the one at the top of the screen. “Freeze arrows” have particularly long tracks; when you encounter one of these arrows, you must take a step and keep that step down for the entirety of the path while using your other foot to take additional steps. Your timed performance will determine your score. Your dancing meter will go up as you step in time with the music and down when you step out of time. If your dancing meter drops to empty, you fail.
In Dance Master mode, you will be given several challenges to complete and earn points. These points can then be redeemed for unlocking additional songs, courses (which allow you to play a continuous sequence of songs), unique modes, and optional graphic textures.
Using an EyeToy USB camera, you can display the player(s) dancing on the screen instead of the typical background. Using the camera, the Hands and Feet option integrates hand waving into the gameplay.
A workout mode for users that use DDR as part of their regular fitness routine that keeps track of the calories burned.
You can play with one or two other people or go online and compete against others.
