In China, approximately 1800 years ago, three brave warriors were vying for ultimate power over the kingdom and engaged in a fierce conflict. One who tried to gain hegemonic control. One who actively pursued their goals. One who has taken a stand for what is right. Veterans who had previously served under each leader were in large numbers. These brave souls fought a war over the great expanse of the continent, and like bloodthirsty devils, they slaughtered anyone and everyone who tried to stand in their way.
They lived by their code, and millions looked up to them while terrified of them; these individuals are known as the Dynasty Warriors.
From the first flames of combat in the Yellow Turban Rebellion to the climactic fight between Wei and Shu on the fields of Wu Zhong, the events of Dynasty Warriors 3 take place over the 50 years of conflict described in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This includes the Yellow Turban Rebellion. There are around 40 playable characters, including those from the three main factions and the commanders of smaller armies encountered along the route. Each character that belongs to Wu, Wei, or Shu has its series of levels, and during these levels, it will perform actions that will either help its force win or lose the conflict. Although every character has a different weapon and magic ability, characters who use the same kind may share weaker variations of weapons. Each gun and item has a range of stats depending on the level of difficulty and the power level of the enemy general from which it was obtained. Weapons and stuff are dropped randomly from chests within groups as well as from defeated enemy generals. On the other hand, the most potent weapons and materials can be acquired only by completing secret objectives while playing as each character. Characters level up by earning things with increased stats from generals they have conquered and, doing well in levels, award points that can be used to improve the story of the bodyguards that follow the player character.
Inaccessible mode, it is possible to replay most previously completed levels using any character and side. In addition, the game comes with an encyclopedia that provides information on every surface and event from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, including some that are not featured in Dynasty Warriors 3.
