Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is the first game in the series to focus on a particular band primarily, and it is considered an expansion to Guitar Hero III. The core gameplay concept is comparable to the game on which it is based. The other artists, such as Run-D.M.C., The Kings, Lenny Kravitz, and others, have either been Aerosmith’s influences or have opened for the band. About sixty percent of the songs on the album are by Aerosmith. The band re-recorded four of its songs just for the video game, and they also participated in the game’s motion capture sessions to bring their 3D models to life. The majority of the tracks are master recordings taken from previous sessions.

The most important part of the game is the “career mode,” in which players progress through the band’s history, beginning in the early seventies and ending in 2001. There is no discussion of personal matters at those times. Players will start the game as Joe Perry, but they will eventually be able to unlock Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton as playable characters. The band’s career has been structured into six tiers, each comprised of five tracks and focused on a different period in the band’s history. In addition, there are encores after each story has been performed, and two opening acts double as another band. After completing each level, additional content such as quizzes, video sequences, and interviews is shown.

Songs are unlocked one at a time and can be played in any of the other game modes, which are virtually identical to those found in Guitar Hero III (Quickplay, Cooperative, Competitive, and Battle modes). The only mode that is missing is the cooperative career mode. The menus have been rethought, and new locations have been added, modeled after previous stage productions. There are 41 songs, 31 of which may be accessed through the career mode, while 10 can be accessed through the vault.

You can purchase the video game on its own or as part of a package deal that includes a personalized guitar. Two different bundles are available for the PS2 version: one comes with a single wireless guitar, and the other comes with two wired guitars.
