There are four main game modes, which are referred to as “season,” “arcade,” “franchise,” and “exhibition,” respectively. The franchise mode records complete statistics for each player and team through seasons. It is expected that players will be drafted, that they will continue to progress throughout their careers, and that upon retirement, they will be inducted into the game’s Hall of Fame. The franchise mode also maintains a record of statistics about the coach and the franchise. Win-loss records throughout a career, as well as playoff appearances and Super Bowl victories, are recorded. In season mode, participants can compete against one another throughout an entire season, whereas exhibition mode only allows for a single match to be played. Arcade mode provides players searching for a simple change of pace with more straightforward control options.
