The long-running hockey franchise produced by EA Sports will continue for the 2005 season. This year features from the previous year have been updated, and new improvements have been added to the game engine.

The graphics have undergone further development from the previous year. Today’s ‘virtual players’ are difficult to differentiate from their real-life counterparts because they seem almost identical. The player models’ skin, hair, and facial features have been enhanced to look more realistic, providing more animations and emotions for the facial expressions. In the same fashion, the coaches have been redesigned. The in-game update, on the other hand, includes many new animations, cutscenes, goalie animations, and changes to the fighting engine.

Open-Ice control is a brand new addition to the set of control options available in NHL 2005. This feature allows you to manage players even when they do not have the puck, allowing you to set up for picks, double teams, and other strategies. Additionally, the slap and shooting wrist shots have been mapped to their separate buttons to allow for greater flexibility.

Players are given new characteristics to play with in the form of personalities thanks to the gameplay. As a result, a player like Tie Domi will play more like an enforcer, while Markus Naslund will rely more on elegance and talent in his game. It will be up to you to ensure a healthy mix of personalities on each team line to foster synergy. The dynasty mode has been overhauled with a -new user interface and other balance changes. The management of teams, Free Agency, and Trading has been subject to specific modifications. Your ability to stay current on weekly injury/streak reports, letters from your owner, players, and other relevant information is made possible by the new system.

New game modes have been included in this version, such as the World Cup tournament and the Free-for-All mode. In Free-For-All, players battle against each other in teams of two, each attempting to score while also protecting their own goal. In addition to the new game types, other minor adjustments have also been made. These adjustments include choices for no-touch icing, delayed offsides, and shootouts for games that end in a draw. This year, the feature to build a team is still available. However, the option to create a player was eliminated from the game. Commentary is provided once again by Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson.
