Orphaned by bandits and left for dead on the frontier, Red Harlow grew up with a scar on his palm and a burning desire for vengeance in his heart. Surviving as a bounty hunter in the rough-and-tumble Old West, Red is constantly looking for any evidence that might lead him to the men who murdered his father and mother – and then, one day, that clue emerges. Step into Red’s spurred boots and join him on his vengeance expedition.

Red Dead Revolver combines landscapes and artwork inspired by classic spaghetti western flicks with third-person shooter action akin to Max Payne. The gameplay and plot go in stages, with numerous levels including characters (a British trick shooter, a female rancher, a renegade Mexican commander, a sneaky aboriginal fighter, and a Buffalo Soldier). Each character has a characteristic move: for example, Red’s “Dead-Eye” freezes time and allows you to set up targets for a quick “fan fire” takedown. At the same time, General Diego’s flare rifle will enable you to identify a target for bombardment by Diego’s cannons.

Beating each stage will win you reward money (and chaining numerous limb shoots and kills will get you bonus money). You can spend your money on unlocking characters (for the multiplayer game), diary entries with backstory and character information, or an assortment of canonical Old West weaponry such as pistols, rifles, shotguns, knives, Molotov, poison, and dynamite.

As a mini-game mechanic, the game includes pistol dueling with specific boss characters, in which you time your draw at an opportune moment and prepare targets as you raise your gun. There is also a multiplayer game (split-screen only, no network support) that you can play with friends or AI bots. Multiplayer has a plethora of powerups, a dueling showdown mode, and two types of optional poker sub-games (based on Stud or Texas Hold ‘Em) that integrate some strategy into the action.
