Shellshock is a film that transports you to the period of the Vietnam War. You play the part of an inexperienced soldier serving his first duty tour. You play the game from a third-person perspective. Your objectives include covert night missions along the riverbanks, tight tunnel systems, massive fights in temples and vast fields, and napalm bombardments of civilian settlements. Your teammates cannot perish, and their actions do not affect whether or not the operation is successful. This is the case for the majority of the missions. You will be tasked with eliminating key enemy generals, destroying important boats, and navigating your team across uncharted regions.
The game does not include drivable vehicles, multiplayer options, or extensive environmental interaction; it does have a unique method of disarming the numerous bombs and traps. In a race against time, the player must press a lengthy key sequence in the exact order to clear the way. The cutscenes, which appear to have been taken with a shaky hand camera, effectively depict the horrors committed by all sides of the conflict. A sense of raw reality permeates the game because both sides are unafraid to torture civilians in the name of their respective causes. Even the services of hookers can be purchased in the base camp if you so desire.
