Sly Cooper is the most recent in a long line of infamous mobsters and con artists. When he was still a young raccoon, a band of criminals known as the Fiendish Five murdered his family and stole their book on the techniques of theft, which was called the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly must prevail over every member of the gang to retrieve the book, all while escaping Carmelita Fox, a law enforcement investigator pursuing him around the world to capture him.

This game is broken up into five different worlds, each focusing on another region of the globe and the evil organization that has its headquarters there. Most worlds consist of a core hub that acts as an entryway to several unique levels. You can get a key if you complete the primary objective for each group. To face the world’s boss, you must first collect all the globe’s keys.

The gameplay of many levels is similar to that of a platformer. Each of these worlds aims to go to the location where the key is hidden. There is a significant emphasis on stealth here, as you will need to avoid being discovered by security personnel by avoiding searchlights and lasers that will trip alarms. In addition to accomplishing the primary mission, you must also look for clue bottles. If you can of the clues in a level, you can unlock a safe containing the Thievius Raccoonus. This page will provide you with a new ability of some kind. After obtaining this, there is also a challenge known as the master thief sprint, in which you have a set amount of time to make it from the beginning of a level to the exit.

Different mini-game stages may involve racing in a way similar to karts, various other types of shooters, or various other activities, such as collecting objects before your opponents do so.

Battles against bosses can also occur in various formats, such as platforming, more traditional forms of fighting, puzzles, rhythm games, or shooting games.

The entire thing is illustrated in a cel-shaded style, and the conversation is voiced over.
