Sniper Elite is a third-person action strategy game with a sniper emphasis. The player assumes the character of an American agent working for the OSS (later the CIA) stationed in Berlin toward the end of WWII, tasked with stopping Russian soldiers from gaining access to the research Germany had been doing into nuclear weaponry. The style of play for an exceptional sniper is significantly less run-and-gun and more about finding favorable positions, lining up shots, and knocking out the enemy before he even realizes where you are.
The single-player campaign is divided into 28 missions in and around Berlin. When lining up shots, players adopt stealth techniques, and factors such as wind and background noise might play a role. When an image is executed flawlessly, the player is rewarded with a ‘bullet cam,’ which tracks the bullet slowly from the gun barrel to the target.
The game also has a multi-player option with a variety of game variations.
