In the year 2401, the space marine Sergeant Cortez is leaving the space station. He stopped at the tail end of his previous expedition. Soon after, he realizes that the crystals he has discovered have the potential to fuel a time machine. After finding evidence of TimeSplitter activity in several different periods on Earth, Cortez climbs aboard the time machine. He travels to these periods hoping to assist several other people in their struggles against the forces of evil.
TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is a first-person shooter in which players engage in combat to progress through thirteen different story missions spread out throughout six different periods. Players can choose to complete these missions alone or with a friend. The arsenal of the protagonist changes depending on the era to which he travels: for example, traveling to 1924 will allow Cortez to wield weapons from World War I; a Soviet setting in the 1960s contains various local firearms of that period; stages that take place in the future feature corresponding weaponry that corresponds to the future; and so on. There is some stealth gameplay, vehicle driving, and fast-paced shooting gameplay.
There are a variety of different multiplayer modes featured, the same as there were in the previous games in the series. Players can face off against computer-controlled opponents on any of the arcade’s fifteen different maps, or they can create their own. Additionally, players can compete for awards in dozens of varying arcade league matches and challenges. It is possible to pick a character from a pool of 150 available options and engage in head-to-head combat with other players, either in a split-screen mode supporting up to four players or through the internet or a local area network (LAN).
