In Trapt, the player assumes the character of Princess Allura, terrified by her father, King of Fronenburg’s, abrupt murder and, worse, being framed for his murder by her stepmother, Queen Catalina, who is subsequently forced to abandon the castle with her maid Rachel.

Fleeing her pursuers, she seeks sanctuary in a forbidden castle; the story has it that this is where an evil monster known only as ‘the Fiend’ was imprisoned. It was not by chance that she was taken here; as it turns out, she was chosen by the Fiend to be her servant and wielder of the Fiend’s wicked power. This skill changes the once-innocent Princess into a ruthless Trapmaster capable of summoning and unleashing traps on the unwary opponent at command.

The game begins at this castle, unfolding this newfound power and Princess Allura’s and her allies’ attempts to resist Queen Catalina’s ambitions.

Trapt is set in medieval times, and most of the gameplay takes place in and around castle rooms, though not exclusively in the castle above. Trapt’s gameplay consists of the following elements:

* Traps/Information Screen

The player has access to various important information in this section to prepare for the upcoming mission/story, such as traps and items that can be purchased (provided there is enough money), upcoming enemies and their stats in the next mission, and room information of areas available for access in addition to what traps are already there.

Combat in Real Time

This is where the real game action occurs, with a third-person view of the character and her surroundings. Most of the game consists of destroying enemies by trapping the unwary pursuer. Because the Princess cannot fight (only run), the player must rely on traps to survive.

In contrast to other comparable games featuring a trap mechanism, the traps in Trapt are not automatically placed. The player must manually activate the traps by hitting the right triggers (through buttons). The three separate buttons/triggers represent the floor, ceiling, and wall traps, and the player can only access these traps.

Other traps or devices can also be found in the various chambers. To the chagrin of the enemy, the player can link/connect them with other surprises to generate combinations. The more combos the player gets, the more money he earns, which implies the more traps he can buy for future planning.

Traps can be placed anytime during this real-time situation, making your abilities distinct. This means the player can move and place traps even when the opponent is hunting them. However, traps must recharge after being laid and triggered, so timing is equally important here.
