On a realm known as Filgaia, humans and demons engaged in combat long ago during the ancient days. Because of this conflict, large portions of the earth are now uninhabitable, and the oceans have filled with sand. The planet still retains the marks of this conflict. For their unique reasons, four diverse personalities decide to become “drifters” and go forth across the plains on their paths. Virginia Maxwell chose to embark on this excursion on a steam train because she was fed up with the same old routine of living in a sleepy village and desired to see more of the world. Jet Enduro, who is on the treasure hunt, believes that the train will take him to a location where he can find a flower that possesses magical abilities. Gallows Caradine is a respected member of his community and the keeper of a precious relic. Cynical and experienced in archaeology, Clive Winslet is also a part-time bounty hunter. These four individuals will meet one another thanks to a fortuitous encounter on a train and become entangled in the activities of a shadowy scientific organization. This Council of Seven was first established to revitalize the life essence of Filgaia; however, it now appears that they are using it to further their agenda.

This game is the third in the Wild Arms series, and it follows in the footsteps of the two games that came before it while also putting an increased focus on the ambiance of the (fantasy) Wild West. Characters can fight to utilize ARMS, which are projectile weapons, as well as unique abilities, equipment, and the ability to cast Arcana, which is magic. Before the four protagonists join forces to form a party and go on their adventure together, the game opens with an introductory chapter for each character. The battles are decided randomly, and, like the second game in the series, an FP gauge fills up while you are hitting or defending. Additionally, using Arms and magic requires FP to function correctly. Later on, unique vehicles will each come equipped with their distinct combat mode. The search system (towns and dungeons are not indicated on the map until you discover them), the ability to cancel a random battle, and special skills utilized outside fighting to solve puzzles are comparable to the previous game. A dialogue system based on key phrases, similar to one often used in adventure games and allowing for more flexible use of dialogue options, is a new feature that has been included.
