Aedis Complex: Generation of Chaos is the fifth installment in the Generation of Chaos series and a sequel to the initial PSP release. The game is a hybrid of RPG and real-time strategy, with three distinct worlds to explore, each with its own set of primary characters and plots.

The main plot takes place on the island of Aedis, where a brutal battle erupted and got so widespread that it spawned a magical entity. The Mugen had become tired of the constant warfare and cast a horrible spell on the earth, separating the world in two, where the survivors sought refuge and attempted to live in peace. Three worlds exist the Divine, the Surface, and the Lower.

The races of Hellions and Angels had lived in peace in the Divine World for years, but the Prince of Hell, Atrapollus, is urged into war by his counselors after the King of Hell is slain on a Divine Celebration, blaming the Angels. Rose, the Queen of Heaven, and her brother collect an army of angels to aid them in their war against the Hellions.

For many years, the Kingdom of Laurid had been allied with the King of Zemora, but one day, Laurid was the victim of a surprise attack and was conquered by the King’s armies. In this, three companions are caught up in the battle: a teenage warrior named Steiner, his sister Fiona, and her fiance Raphelos, who then vanishes. Ten years later, a mysterious warrior named Herault arrives and clashes with Steiner, now the Prince of Zemora. Herault and two other comrades must now attempt to liberate Laurid and learn the dreadful secret that prompted the invasion.

The Lower environment is an industrial environment with mech-style weapons known as Cyber Suits. Here, a teenage military student named Quinn witnesses an invasion in which a mysterious army arrives with advanced Cyber Suits and threatens to destroy the city. To preserve their city, he and his pals Gon and Keri must learn about the invaders’ plans and find their flaws.

There is a Field Map, which is a top-down view of a map, where players can move their units into strategic positions in a series of grids in a turn-based fashion; where players can also come across elemental grids that can slow down their teams as well as construct buildings and rework the land to their liking. Additional events occur after a turn that can either benefit or demoralize the player’s units, and fights are fought when one enemy unit encounters another.

The World Map, where players may see the layout of the lands and which territories are controlled, as well as equip units and grant army captains roles and jobs by using experience points.

The Battle Screen is a real-time event in which armies can be directed and molded into various battle formations that can demolish opponent lines, armed with unique weaponry, and use magical strikes that can decimate enemy groupings. When either captain is dead, the war is done. There are over 100 units to control and 150 weapons and armor to use.
