Downstream Panic! is a brightly colored puzzle game that combines gameplay concepts from Worms and LocoRoco.

An enormous cyclone has wholly emptied the waters of its fish population. The player is responsible for bringing them back in one piece. The levels begin at the top of the area where the fish are confined within a blob of water at the beginning of each class. They must make it to the water at the bottom of the screen without getting hurt while following the player’s instructions.

It is possible to guide the fish across the platforms through the hungry sharks, piranhas, and many other perils using various inventive gadgets such as fans, onions, rockets, and cloud factories. The instruments can also control the fish’s direction and water flow. Plants can stop the flow, and bridges can be opened by blowing on the flowers. In most cases, the region at the beginning of the level needs to be surveyed first utilizing the free camera perspective to identify all of the present dangers. It is possible to make sacrifices for certain fish, but a sufficient number must be released into the water.

The standard mode will, at some point, grant access to the Free Play and Survival modes. When playing Free Play, users can use the money they’ve earned from regular games to purchase tools for the different levels. In the survival mode, each group is played again rapidly; however, any lost fish do not return in subsequent classes.
