A revision of the previous year, the customary revision of the roster, and the introduction of new elements. There is still access to the same gameplay modes as before, including Exhibition, Franchise, The Show, and Road to the Show. In addition, there is a brand new Pitcher/Batter Analysis function that allows the player to analyze their results against specific pitchers both during and after the game has concluded. Along with a Progressive Batting Performance function that would either penalize or reward their player-created superstars based on how they perform throughout games, the game also has a Custom Superstar Creator. In addition, players can save their games in the middle of the action, allowing them to take up where they left off at a later time.

Additionally, online features are exclusive to each platform. Players can compete in Online Leagues with up to 30 teams using either the PS3 or PS2 version, and they can keep their preferences via the SCOUT (SportsConnect Online User Tracking) system. This makes it simple to refer back to saved preferences when setting up Exhibition matches. Additionally, players can examine real-life MLB metrics on all three platforms and keep those stats to their memories so they may be viewed later.

In addition, the PS3 can utilize the capabilities of its hard disk drive (HDD) abilities to play the music stored on the HDD during gameplay. Using a Memory Stick Duo that already has music saved on it, the PSP also possesses this capability. The EyeToy can also be used for custom-made superstars on the PS2, which has this capability. The three-person crew consisting of Rex Huddler, Matt Vasgerian, and Dave Campbell also calls the games again.
