“Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games” is a popular crossover sport and party game in the “Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games” series. The game was developed by Sega, with support from Arzest and Spike Chunsoft and was published by Nintendo. This is the fifth version of the series as well as a collection of sports-themed minigames. The game features 34 characters from the famous game brands “Mario” and “Sonic the Hedgehog”, as well as players who have the option of using a Mii character created earlier in the game. In addition, this version introduces new playable characters (or ‘guests’) in both series: Diddy Kong, Nabbit, Wendy O. Koopa, Larry Koopa, Rosalina, Toad, Dry Bowser, Jet the Hawk, Rouge the Bat, Wave the Swallow, Espio the Chameleon, Zavok, Sticks the Badger and Zazz. Each character will have separate statistics on ‘power’, ‘speed’ and ‘technique’, which affect the player’s performance in the minigames. Sports such as boxing, rugby, and football will all be released in the game. In addition, it is the return of other sports such as athletics, volleyball, archery, swimming, and equestrian.
