Over the past decade, enigmatic purple clouds have begun to materialize in the sky, bringing with them the threat of catastrophe. On one sad day, the Talta Village was the target of an attack by a monster known as the Land Shark. While attempting to catch it, three companions by the names of Shu, Kluke, and Jiro discovered that the Land Shark was a machine. This machine was being controlled by a malicious individual named Nene, who allegedly possessed knowledge of ancient and powerful technology. After leaving the town, the three friends searched for Nene, ready to do whatever it took to bring him to justice.

Hironobu Sakaguchi, well known for his work on the role-playing game Final Fantasy, is responsible for Blue Dragon’s design, writing, and supervision. Blue Dragon is a turn-based Japanese role-playing game. There is no such thing as a random encounter in the game, and the player can always observe the enemies, fight back against them, or flee to avoid the conflict altogether. Traveling around the battlefield during any matches is not feasible because they all take place on different displays. The fact that every group member fights their personal shadow monster is the primary component of the game’s fighting system. Everyone in the group has a blue-colored monster—Kluke has a blue phoenix, Jiro has a blue minotaur, Shu has a blue dragon, and so on. Each of those shadows has a diverse arsenal of skills, spells, and attacks at their disposal, and as they level up, even more abilities become available to them.
