Blur is an action-packed racing game in the style of the Mario Kart series. Instead of driving go-carts through colorful surroundings while shooting bananas and turtle shells, the game offers dozens of licensed sports cars from manufacturers, such as the Audi Quattro, Nissan 350Z, and Shelby GT-500 racing across fantasy and real-world tracks.

There are three various sorts of power-ups scattered around these tracks, including a repair kit and a shield, as well as five different weapons, such as the target-seeking Shunt, which are utilized to eliminate the competitors. To that purpose, each car has its statistics, such as strength, acceleration, and so on, making it a very tactical decision to employ for various races and tracks. The events include regular races with and without power-ups and pure destruction races either in specially built arenas or on regular race courses.

The single-player campaign lies at the heart of the game. The player must work his way to the top of the game, divided into nine groups, and it takes place in over 14 different real-world locales. Each group contains a variety of events, including a boss fight. If the player wins the latter, he will receive their automobiles, complete with unique alterations and finishing. The user must earn lights – up to seven for each event – to unlock additional events and groups. While winning first place makes him five lights, the final two can only be acquired by impressing the crowd.

Every event has a Fan Target and a Fan Run. Fan Runs are mini-challenges that appear during a race and demand the player to drive through a succession of light arcs while the primary race proceeds. This will gain him more fans in addition to a bonus light. The remaining fans required to attain the Fan Target are “collected” by shooting and damaging other cars or impressing with excellent driving skills such as drifting or long jumps.

The game also has a multiplayer mode that supports up to four players on a single system or up to 20 online. While offline multiplayer simply allows players to select from all available automobiles, online multiplayer will enable players to earn unlockable car upgrades and customizations. Furthermore, the player improves in rank by winning tournaments. When he hits level 50, he can enter Legendary mode. Similarly to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the player then loses all of his achievements and is reset to rank 1, but in exchange, he receives an exclusive Legendary automobile. This reset is repeatable up to ten times.
