The full version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the third game in the series and the fourth game overall in the Guitar Hero franchise. The gameplay is identical to that of the previous games in the series. Using a controller in the shape of a guitar, players must press the five fret buttons in time with the notes that scroll over the screen while strumming. If you skip notes, your performance meter will go down; if it goes down too much, the performance will be considered a failure, and you will have to try again. This version of the game includes 71 new songs by various artists, such as Cream, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, Santana, Sonic Youth, and Weezer, amongst many more. You can play any of these songs. Aside from the songs that may be played, the game also includes “boss battles” versus well-known guitarists like Slash, Tom Morello, and Lou the Devil. There are many other game modes to choose from, such as multiplayer, co-op, and career modes. In addition to the primary game modes, training and practice modes are available. These modes can assist in learning how to play the game or how to play a particularly challenging section of a song.

You take on the role of an aspiring musician as you play the career mode. Starting with more straightforward songs in more intimate settings, you’ll need to demonstrate that you can complete tracks to become a celebrity. Before moving on to larger venues, you must play a predetermined quantity of songs at each smaller location. When pieces are completed successfully, players gain money that can be spent on unlocking new characters, clothing, guitars, other extra content, and additional instruments.

The co-op career mode is identical to the single-player variant, except that two players collaborate to finish songs (with one player playing lead guitar and the other playing bass or rhythm guitar).

The multiplayer game options facilitate competition between two different players at the same time. In the Face-Off version of the game, two players take turns singing a song back and forth. The Pro Face-Off twist on the match enables two players to compete against one another while simultaneously following the same note chart. Last but not least, the fight mode awards power-ups to players based on their performance, which can be used to interrupt the other player’s gameplay.
