Players in LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues to explore the Indiana Jones universe with “LEGO-fied” characters. This time, the primary part of the game centers on the events of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the fourth film in the franchise, with three campaigns recounting the story in a funny, light-hearted manner, similar to the other games in the LEGO series. On the other hand, the other three campaigns return to the original three films but with new scenes and levels not found in the first game.

The game is a third-person platform/action game in which players control various heroes such as Indiana Jones and side characters who typically don’t have genuine names. Each character has unique powers, fears, and weaponry. While Indiana Jones uses his whip to pull stuff out of reach or to restrain opponents, his son Mutt is an excellent mechanic. The characters also have distinct phobias (snakes, rats, and spiders), which match their personalities.

Instead of giving a central point to which the characters return after each assignment, the story and places advance this time. So, while the game begins and ends on the University campus, it eventually goes to the dig site in South America. After each successful mission, a new section of the hub is unlocked, usually by unlocking new characters or vehicles that allow the player to access previously inaccessible territory. Because these hubs are so large, many cars can open in the same manner as other characters are: by locating them in the corner and paying studs for them. Studs are acquired by demolishing scenery objects, building goods, etc. To that purpose, each level contains many secrets that require different characters to open, necessitating multiple playthroughs of the same story to find all bonus items and complete the game thoroughly.

The game once again includes an editor for assembling new heroes from pieces. Furthermore, a level editor is now accessible, in which the player goes around the area, spawning the things he requires and placing them with his character. The two-player co-op mode returns, allowing two players to play through the entire game. The second player can enter the game at any time by pushing a button on the second controller. In contrast to previous games, players are no longer bound to the exact location. Instead, they may now both move about freely. When one of the characters exits the other’s screen, the view is divided, with the placement of each character-view shifting all the time depending on which direction the corresponding player is going about the center of the level.
