Players in LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures explore the Indiana Jones universe with “LEGO-fied” characters.

The game focuses on three original films: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, with each film consisting of six separate chapters retelling the stories in a humorous, light-hearted manner that tones down the violence while removing some of the film’s more overtly religious and political references.

All of the sets and props are created of LEGOs and maintain features like the capacity to be rebuilt and fall apart.

In this third-person platform/action game, players can control several heroes such as Indiana Jones, Marion Ravenwood, Dr. Marcus Brody, and villains such as Belloq and Mola Ram.

Each character possesses unique powers and weaponry. While Indiana Jones has a whip to yank stuff out of reach, female characters can jump higher, academics can read hieroglyphics, mechanics can repair machinery, and diggers can find hidden wealth. The characters also have distinct phobias (snakes, rats, and spiders), which match their personalities.

Story Mode is the game’s primary campaign, in which the player follows the film’s stories with two pre-defined characters and cutscenes. Once the level is completed, the player can return to Free Play mode and switch between all the unlocked characters, gaining access to previously inaccessible places and collecting all other artifacts and bonus goodies.

Destroying or constructing objects generates Lego studs, which may be used to purchase extra characters and cheat options in Barnett College (the primary hub). Players can also go back in time and view past cutscenes, inspect previously discovered items, enter codes, and explore the institution at leisure.

In addition to the single-player game, as in the LEGO Star Wars series, a two-player co-op mode allows two people to play the Story Mode. The second player can enter the game at any time by pushing a button on the second controller.
